The perfect introduction to climbing if you have never been before. Our Via Ferrata gives you the exposure of a rock climbing experience. Whilst less physically challenging, you still get the buzz of being up high.

The southern hemisphere’s first and only Via Ferrata climbing system (literally translated as Iron Way). We have a variety of routes with varying length and difficulty that snake their way up Queenstown Hill. Each route is expertly equipped with fixed rungs and cable systems of the highest standard.

This activity allows anyone of moderate fitness to experience the excitement, exposure and scenic beauty normally only enjoyed by people with climbing skills. It is a great introduction into climbing and no previous experience is required. The climbing routes cater for a wide range of abilities and also this activity can be undertaken in most weather conditions, so you’ll never be disappointed.

Trips depart at 9am and 1.30pm. Please meet at our desk in Outside Sports 10 min before trip departure.

Please note: During our winter scheule rock climbing, via ferrata and abseiling trips are only available for group bookings for 4 or more people.

Family Activity – Via Ferrata

The Via Ferrata is a perfect way for families to enjoy an adventure together in Queenstown. We have a selection of trails and cliff’s to climb which keeps the adventure at the right level for peoples abilities. We have a maximum group size of six to one guide, which keeps trips personal and also maintains our high safety standards. The normal Via Ferrata trip last 4 hours which includes climbing the rungs on the Via Ferrata and trekking to the cliffs. During the short trek, your guide will give you a full interpretation of the native flora and fauna and point at local landmarks. If you are looking for something a little different, which includes educational value and adventure, this is the perfect activity. Look forward to guiding you on the Kiwi Via Ferrata.

Via Ferrata

Dawned with heavy rain, you conemplate not going out but a fairer forecast and a keen team from the QT Resort College saw us out on the cliff.

Small waterfalls accompanied our ascent and waterproofs kept most of the water out, the rain relented and with that came more smiles and the forecast payed off.
